Just Dance
I love to dance. I have ever since I was a kid. Whenever there is music playing, you can bet that I’ll be moving. This idea has always seemed natural for me. Last year I went to a concert for a band that I adore with my brother. We were so stoked to dance our hearts out and jam music we both loved. When the music started playing I started jumping around and yelling out the words to the songs. I was so lost in how much fun I was having I forgot to look around. But then I stopped for a second, and I noticed that no one else seemed to be dancing. People were stood still, just shyly bopping their heads, and all I could think was,”Why?” We were at concert, at a band that we all liked, and no one was even moving a little. I became self conscious of my dancing. Maybe I shouldn’t be acting like I am because no one else is. Maybe it makes me weird. Maybe dancing isn’t normal. But then my favorite song by the band started and I had to dance. And it hit me. This is my life and I’m only going to get to live it once. How many times do you get to see your favorite band with your favorite brother? You better make the most of those moments cause you only get a few in life. So I danced and I danced hard. I was sweaty and thirsty by the end of the concert but I was so happy. I made the most of that moment and now when I look back, it is a night that I will forever remember.
We all want to live a life that is awesome right? When we’re old and sitting in our rocking chairs, we want to be able to look back at our lives and say, “I lived the best life I could. I took every opportunity and I know that there is nothing I would change.” Humans are always on this forever mission to find out what living a good life looks like and what our purpose is here. I know I am. I want to have the best stories to tell when I’m old! So we are looking to live our best lives, why don’t we take every opportunity?
Most of us are afraid of what others will think of us. We are more concerned with others opinions than we are with our own and that’s our problem. We’ve stopped listening to the person inside us who tells us what we really want. I think it’s time to start listening again. What others think of you will only matter to them. What you think of you will always matter more than any other silly opinion. Listen to yourself because you know you better than anyone else.
Life is short, so just dance. Dance hard until you are out of breath and sweaty and dying of thirst because the smile on your face will always be worth more than anything else.
