This i believe
Essential Question: What do you believe, and why?
In this project we learned about In This I Believe radio casts and wrote and recorded our own. A This I Believe is a podcast that was broadcasted on the radio starting in the 1950s in which people would state their own beliefs for a larger audience. It was a collection of many beliefs and stories from many different people and backgrounds. We as a class wrote our own to explore what we value most in life and what are our core beliefs. This was an important project to do I think before getting started with the year because it reminds us of what we value in life. This will help us be better to each other and ourselves. For my essay I wrote about everyone having a battle and that we should just play nice. Basically I wrote that every person you meet has something going on in their lives and we should just accept that and treat them kindly to ease their struggle. We also along with the essays recorded podcasts of our essays to tell the world our beliefs. The project made us think deeply about our core values and helped me to think about what I want out of life.
This project had some good things about it but also came with challenges. One of the main challenges I came across was time. I felt that I didn’t have enough time to complete everything that I needed to. I really like to be able to sit with my writing and read it over many times and this project was so short that I was crunched for time often. I did however finish everything I needed to at home but the whole process felt a little rushed to me. In the future I need to manage my time a little bit better, write better work the first time, and take advantages of peer critiques. I didn’t do these things well this project and I believe if I do them in the future I will have all the time I need. With these challenges came a lot of good things as well. I very much enjoyed writing my essay because I love to write. I was very proud of my essay when I finished it. It felt very me and I think showed my personality well. I enjoy putting myself into my writing because I think that it makes it more fun to read. I was also proud of the concept that I wrote about since it is something so personal to me. It was very fun to write as well.
I am starting to think a lot different about beliefs after this project. It is kind of funny because we live in a society where we throw around opinions and beliefs like they are air. It seems that every conversation you have someone tries to convince you to believe that they are correct. It feels like we live in a world of preachers. This project was nice though because we weren’t trying to convince anyone to believe we are right. We are simply just stating an opinion. I think our world would be a much nicer place to live in if we just stated our beliefs and got to live them instead of constant fighting over them all them time. Talking about beliefs with other people made me realize that everyone has a different belief and that’s okay. No one is really right or wrong, we are just different.
