Self Portrait
To what extent does a work of art depend on the artist’s point of view?
I believe that most of an art piece depends on the artists point of view. We create art because we need a way of self expression. That is what art is. As artists we need to take into consideration what the audience will see when they look at the piece. The art pieces need to be relatable or at least readable for the audience. This gives them more of a connection to the art piece. We also need to keep in mind who our audience is. If you are making art for kids you probably don't want to make it to be PG-13. But if you are making art for your self the art will depend on you. For the most part art should be an expression you yourself and should depend on you. What problem solving skills are employed in making visual reflections of self? For me I had to use problem solving in making sure that the photos turned I took turned out the same. This was hard because it meant that my face had to be in the same place and at the same position. I also had to figure out how to make the light the same in both since the were taken about an hour apart. You really have to come up with ideas when you are taking photos of yourself especially when you want them to look the same. I learned a lot about how to light a picture and place a face in a photo through this project. |
Teacher Creature
|
Project ReflectionIn the teacher creature project we took our teachers and turned them into something or someone else. We sent out teachers to a couple of teachers asking questions about things they like. Through this survey we came up with a project idea to turn our teachers into creatures. I took Lori Fisher and turned her into a monkey on a runway. To start this process I made a preliminary sketch to get my ideas down on paper. Then I went on to google and searched for large images. In photoshop I selected parts of different images and then put them together in one cohesive photo. In this project I think the hardest part for me was learning how to make an image look realistic. I don’t have much experience with photoshop and I was pretty confused with the whole process. After a lot of trial and error and using the internet I finally figured out how to use the basics of photoshop. I’m not really sure what I have learned about my art style through this project. I’m still trying to figure it out but I think that I am learning a little bit more about it. I think that my style is clean and crisp. I like simple art and simple lines. I’m still trying to figure out what my art style is. The underlying structures of an images have a lot to do with guiding an art piece. For example I was going to have a beach scene in the background but after seeing how the runway looked on the page I realized that it wouldn’t look realistic so I changed to black background. When you start to put images together you realize what will look good and what won’t. Also I think that the runway was inspired in my brain by my love for fashion. Also My interactions with Lori made me choose things that reminded me of her. This project was a lot of fun and I feel that I learned a lot.

photoshop tutorial
I used the mask tool to pick up all her skin and then turned down the saturation to make her skin grey.
I used a brush at 50% opacity and 0% hardness to change his hair color.
I used the pen tool to pick up all the eye and the use Ctrl U to change the hue pf the eye.
I used the pen tool again and then Ctrl U to change the hue.
Landscape project
I learned a lot during this project. I haven't had a lot of experience with Photoshop so this project taught me a lot about how to use different tools and take different photos and make them into one. Probably the most useful tool that I used was the quick selection tool. Since we were taking so many elements from so many different sources having something that could easily select parts of images and put them on something else was really helpful. I also found that the magnetic lasso tool to be very useful when I wanted to cut out very specific pieces of an image. I also thought that learning about scale and proportion made creating it much easier. I had been taught about scale and probation in drawing but it was very interesting to use it in a digital sense. Photoshop is such a useful tool to have and I am glad that I am learning more about it.
