Complimentary colors are an important tool to use when creating art. They create a contrast against each other which can be used to make shadows and shading. In this piece I used pink and green. While I also used other colors, the pink I used to highlight the face while the green come into the shadows. Complimentary colors give a piece a life like feel when different shades of each color are blending to match the many different qualities of a face.

Value gives art the dimensions that mimic the real world. When looking around, everything has value. There are many shades surrounding us at any given moment. When value is added to art, it gives the illusion of reality. This can alter the perspective of the viewer. If the artist wishes for a darker mood to the piece they may add darker value to the image. If they wish to give the piece a feeling of reality, they may more white to give the illusion of reflection. Value is what makes a piece feel the way the artist wanted it to feel.
